Show Who Designed The Christmas Seal? Christianity, with all its true meaning, struggles to the front more Insistently at Christmas time. Usually Us-ually it is heraled by the annual Yule tuberculosis seals. Two billion of these miniature' good will stickers are now in clr-J culation in the United States alone, and more will be used in Canada,1 Great Britain and Newfoundland, minus the tiny U.S.A. We are all aware of the great good to be done from the expected $18,000,000 revenue rev-enue from the sale of these seals, yet how many have taken time from their busy thoughts to wonder Idly, "Who designs the Christmas seals?" ( This year's seal was designed by Raymond Lufkln. Mr. Lufkln has a studio in New York City, but lives across the Hudson in Tenafly, N. J. and here, In the attic studio of his 100 year old home was born the 1947 Christmas seal. The idea came from nostalgic memories of a visit as a child to the home of an uncle in Nova Scotia, where Lufkln, a 12 year old youngster first say oxen at work hauling trees from the woods near his uncle fas m'rFJrstWwo'wz near his uncle's farm. First afraid of. later admiring the strong, gentle gen-tle beasts, they remained In his mind a symbol of the need for kindness, kind-ness, strength and the homey thlns which only Christmas can truly bring. Several years ago the artist, accompanied ac-companied by his wife, and son, Ray, Junior made a sketching tour of Southern Utah for the color used In his painting "The Colorado" in the series of the "Ruvers". While in Cedar City they were the guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Syrett. |
