Show Holiday Time For Pie V I Photo by Jello PuJJin Serving pie for dessert is one of America's favorite habits no much so that we say "As typically American as apple pie." Pics are especially traditional for holidays Cherry Fie for Washington's Birthday and Pumpkin Pie for Thanksgiving. Of course we must always have a Mince Pie for Christmas. The one pictured here Mincemeat Cream Pie is a new version of mince, with a layer of packaged vanilla pudding added to the top. There are, other pies that gayly exploit the color-scheme of a special holiday, like the ChriHtmas Delight Pies described below. Here the cherries are molded in red cherry-flavored gelatin, then a layer of lime-flavored gelatin is added, for a bright and colorful Christmas dessert. Bring on the pies it's holiday time! Mincemeat Cream Pie I recipe prepared vanilla pudding I tablnpoon rum or U tcatpoon rum tutracl Thrct-fourtht cup mincemeat t baked 8 inch pie ihcll Prepare pudding as directed on package. Cool slightly (about five minutes), stirring occasionally. occasion-ally. Add rum and mix well. Spread mincemeat in bottom of pie shell. Cover with pudding. Chill. Christmas Delight Pies I No. 2 can red tour pitted chemet I (up cherry juice and water I package cherry-flavored gelatin I cup bat water I baked (-inch pie ihelli I package lime flavored gelatin 1 cups hot w ater 2 cupt cream, whipped and sweetened I cup shredded coconut Drain cherries well; reserve juice. Add enough water to juice to make 1 cup. Dissolve cherry gelatin in 1 cup hot water. Add cherry juice and water. Chill until un-til slightly thickened. Then fold in cherries. Place l'i cups gelatin mixture in each pie shell. Chill until firm. , Dissolve lime gelatin in 2 cups hot water. Chill until slightly thickened. Spread a thin layer of whipped cream over firm gelatin gela-tin layers. Cover with slightly thickened lime gelatin. Chill until firm. Top pies with remaining whipped cream and sprinkle wrth coconut |
