Show Fish and Game Men Plan Antelope Project The Fish and Game department, depart-ment, has completed plans for the third segment, or year, of! its antelope rehabilitation and predator control project. This Is a Federal Aid project and consists of the expenditure of approximately $22,000.00 to be used for the trappine and trans-1 planting of antelope to revital- j lze small herds in the desert1 areas of the state and for the control of predators in these areas ar-eas prior to the transplant and until such time as the herd is large enough to maintain itself. The predator control is being done in cooperation with the predator and rodent control divl-sion divl-sion of the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Wild-life Service. Five trappers are employed year-round to intensively inten-sively trap the areas where antelope an-telope herds are being increased. Prior to the plant of antelope, agreements are worked out with sportsmen, landowners, and the livestock men. To date, a total of 210 antelope have been moved from the Dag-gett Dag-gett county area to areas in the West Desert. On November 13,' 93 head of antelope were trapped trap-ped and two transplants were made; one to the San Raphael area near Robber's Roost, and one to the Uintah area near Bonanza. Bo-nanza. , It is felt that such a rehabilitation rehabili-tation program will soon add another species of big game arri-mals arri-mals to the hunter's list of regular reg-ular game. |
