We are now on a standard with any other Khool of this section. ThU aasoUatlon was established In 1917 and haa done much In contributlnt to the malntalnance and elevation of educational standards In northwestern north-western 1'nlted States. It now functions In seven states and two territories--qiltfornU, Idaho, Utah, Ut-ah, Montana, .Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii. The following purposes are stated In its constitution: (1) To develop educational policies and activities which will extend and improve educational ed-ucational opportunities and service; (2) To develop criteria of evaluation evalua-tion which v, I continually Stimulate, Stimu-late, evalu: U and accredit vital educational efforts; (3) To promote pro-mote cooperative relationships a-mong a-mong secondary and higher Institutions Insti-tutions of learning. The program for the Northwest Crediting As sociation this year is built around the theme, "American Education Faces A War Emergency." The annual Seminary Swing is being held tonight in the Third Ward Chapel. This Is the big event of the Seminary year. There will be a strictly "date" dance upstairs and downstairs there will be plenty of games and fun for those who choose to come without a partner. It has been decided that it will be a formal dance and also that only one of the couple must be from the Seminary. Instead of spending the entire Seminary Swing Fund for the party, eighteen dollars and seventy-five cents of it will be spent to purchase a United States Defense Bond. The students In these classes voted unanimously for this action. During Bible Week a group at the Seminary gave a radio program based on the theme of the week, "The Value of the Bible". Seminary Semin-ary students gave scriptures from various books of the Bible. Applications Ap-plications of those scriptures to our life today were pointed out. so The school play was presented on Wednesday and was an outstanding outstand-ing success. Miss Leigh did an excellent ex-cellent piece of work in preparing this play and all of the cast cooperated co-operated one-hundred per cent. Mr. Larson led the High School Orchestra Or-chestra hi numbers before the play and between act. The basketball team has won all five games It has played so far. It seems that Coach Slater "Has what It takes" In building winning teams. We are proud that we have him as our coach. Our next game will be between Cedar and Nephi on our floor on Thursday, the 18th. This Is Just a practice game. The league games will begin after Christmas. The Lyceum number Wednesday, the "Guardsmen Quartet" was a very fine program. It was well attended at-tended and all present thoroughly enjoyed it. The boys In the agriculture classes class-es took a field trip not long ago. They were studying the beef Industry In-dustry and visited the Jones and Brads haw farm where they obtained obtain-ed a lot of Information concerning concern-ing the feeding and care of beef cattle. An "P. F. A. Quarterly" is being mimeographed, which shows the student activities. The booklet covers cov-ers news of the organization and it also presents editorials and Information Inform-ation of "Farm Facts." The Intramural volley ball tourn- -ament of the G.A.A. was brought to an exciting finish this week. First place was captured by the Highlanders High-landers with Iona Roundy acting as team manager. The Arrows, managed by LaRae Rollins, finished fin-ished second and the Smoothers, with Phyllis Urle, manager, were third. The next tournament to be played will be Tennlqulot which will be managed by Betty Warlhen. A group of American Cowboy Square dances, under the direction Hon of Miss Petty went to Parowan Friday to put on a demonstration for the high school. Marlam Dixon, Shop Syrett, Alice Roberts, Haze Hunter, Garn Sccgmlller, laRae Rollins, Blair Nelson and Shirley Young were Uie dancers. Accompaniments Accom-paniments were played by Luana Wood. The same program will be presented for us In an assembly Friday. |
