Show Recruiting Officer Reports Enlistment Of Cedar City Youth Harlan P. Walker, son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Walker, enlisted m the Naval Reserve, through the Cedar City sub-station, at Salt Lake City on Tuesday, December 16, it was announced today by E. K. Beam, local Navy recruiting officer. of-ficer. . Mr. Walker Is the first volunteer to be enlisted in any branch of the armed forces from this district, since the outbreak of hostilities on December 7, according to Mr. Beam. There have been many applications filed, but young Walker is the first from Cedar City to be actually enlisted. en-listed. Jack Foster, son of Mr. and Mr-,. John M. Foster, has been accepted for the Naval Aviation Cadet training train-ing and is waiting orders to report to the Naval Air Station at Oakland, Oak-land, California for enlistment and training. Applications far enlistment in the Naval Reserve have been accepted accept-ed from the following young men who will be enlisted in the near future: Elmo Mitchell, son of Mrs. Loretta Mitchell, Cedar City; Douglas Doug-las Faniow, son of Mrs. Edith Grim-shaw Grim-shaw of Milford who is now attending attend-ing school at the Branch Agricultural Agricul-tural College; Sherman Dalton, son of Mrs. Nellie Dalton, Parowan; and Chester D. Cripps, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Cripps, Cedar City. Dr. Frank J. Burton of Parowan, a veteran of the Spanish American War, has also offered his services to the Medical department of the Navy. 3L JL |
