Show The American Way Many of you who are native-born citizens of these United States, often of-ten take for granted the freedom and blessings enjoyed under a democratic dem-ocratic form of government, but there are thousands of others a-mong a-mong us who, through personal choice, have adopted this country as their own, realizing, perhaps, more keenly than the rest of us, Just how precious that heritage Is. This was brought home to us very vividly early this week when we chanced upon a telegram which ; had been sent by a foreign-born father to his son who ls now serving serv-ing in the armed forces of the United States. The telegram, which reveals intense in-tense loyalty to his adopted country, was sent by Sam Holland, a native of Poland and now a citizen of the United States, who ls well-known to many in this section of the state. The recipient was his son, Corporal Charles Holland, now serVing with Headquarters Company, 53rd Infantry, In-fantry, in California. With Mr. Holland's Hol-land's permission we quote: "Dear Son Char.os: I am glad to hear from you. 1 am happy that you are a soldier hi thr United States Army. I know very well you are a good soldier, that you will fight for freedom and democracy, and it ls worth fighting fora free country like the United States that gives protection to the human race and all religions. If I were your age I would do as you are now doing. You know very well all your relatives and your blood are fighting on the other side of the sea to destroy the evil powers and the gangsters. Don't worry, have faith in God and God will help you and protect you in any kind of danger. I myself will pray for you. God help all the soldiers sol-diers of the United States. I hope God will save democracy, destroy the evil and that righteousness will win the war. You know I was a soldier in the last war. God save America. God bless the President of the United States. If you have tho opportunity, wire me at my expense ex-pense how you are. Your father, Sam Holland." |
