Show PRESS ASSOCIATION 0 1 TING I A number of the members of the State Press Association, with their wives and friends, took a few days off last week and made the trip to Zion canyon and other Southern Utah points of interest, via the "Wylie Way." Several of the party met Friday evening at the union station of the Salt Lake Route, where they departed at 11:50 for the south and were joined along the route by other member! mem-ber! of the Association. City Ticket Apent, J. S. Earlcy, of the Salt Lake Route, accompanied the party on the entire trip and the best of service of the "Wylie-Wav" and the great Salt Lake Route were extended the excursionists. ex-cursionists. The first stop was made at Mil-for'd, Mil-for'd, where the party was entertained ah"d breakfasted by the M'lford Commercial Com-mercial Club. After a stop of thirty minutes the journey was continued to Lund, here the party took the "Wylie-Way" "Wylie-Way" passenger autos for a thirty-five mile drive to Cedar City. A stop of an hour was made and lunch was had, after which a trip of sixty-five miles through picturesque canyons, green fields and orchards to the Wylie camp in Zion canyon was made. Sunday was spent in viewing and inspecting the wonderful scenery in Zion canyon the scenic wonder of the west. On the route between Cedar City and the Wylie camp groat fields of hay and grain and orchards of ripening1 ripen-ing1 fruit arc to be seen on either side of the highway. A stop was made at the ranch of Peter Anderson where the members of the party were feasted feast-ed on melon and lucious 'ruits grown on this ranch of several hundred acres. Mr. Anderson hns a modern brick and concrete bungalow home, with his own water system and all the conveniences and improvements of a modern city home. Acres of beans, all in a thrifty condition are being raised this year by Mr. Anderson. All along the route the excursionists were entertained by tho hospitable people of the "Dixie I.and." Monday morning the party started on the return re-turn trip and made the first stop at Cedar City where they were banquet- t ed by the Cedar City Commercial club. Ex-Senator Lund welcomed O visitors and spoke of the large shJ raising and other industries of the valley. Prof. R. F. Homer, principal of the branch state agricultural college, col-lege, which has been maintained in Cedar City for a number of years, told of the work being done by the school in that part of the state, where high . school and college courses in ag. culture, mechanic arts, home economics, econom-ics, business and art and science is tnught. Manager J. E. Jones, of the Western Newspaper Unior. responded for the visitors and assured the people peo-ple of the community that the visiting party truly appreciated the hospitable , manner in which they had been received re-ceived at every stop. After luncheon the trip was resumed to Lund, where the Salt Lake Route train was boarded on the last lap homeward. The only disappoinment to the members of the excursion party was that more time could not have been spent at the Wylie Camp, where the scenery is magnificent magnifi-cent and the service at the camp is ' the very best. No official business was transacted. The outing was arranged for a pleasure pleas-ure trip only, and Secretary Porte, Mr. Jones and Mr. Early made it their business to see that every one ' who made the trip had a fine time. |
