The presentation of the drama "The Shepherdess of Loudres," by the pupils, was well done and showed most careful and thorough training. For the most part the acting was much better than one would expect. The naturalness of the characters struck the looker-on as one of the features of the evening. Special mention ought to be made of Miss Mary McMahon as Gertrude Miss Mary McGurk as the Gypsy Girl, and little Misses Blanche Poe and Anna McGurk as little Rirls. St. Mary's orchestra rendered pleasing pleas-ing music, and Miss Nano Ryan as an Instrumental soloist did splendidly. Miss Catherine Leonard's essay, "Beauty Is Nobly Useful," was read in most excellent voice and manner. Miss Leonard is quite tall, but of fine presence, pres-ence, and the applause given her at the close showed how well the audience audi-ence enjoyed her production. She is the only graduate this year from the academy and will be a- credit to the 1 school. Rev. P. De Siere, who was unexpectedly unex-pectedly present, in a few impressive words handed Miss Leonard her diploma. di-ploma. Judge J. M. Kennedy of Aanaconda then read the award of prizes and medals, and handed each one the well-earned well-earned token. Miss Nano Ryan won the medal for disciplinary . deportment; Miss Lulu Hoffman for needle work; Miss Mary Frost for class deportment, and Miss Catherine Leonard for general application. applica-tion. Owing to .the enforced absence of Rev. F. X. Batens, who was to have delivered the closing address, Judge Kennedy, in a short talk, spoke of the usefulness of the school in the work it was doing and the faithfulness of the care and teaching given the pupils by the Sister Superior and her associates. asso-ciates. The year just closed has been the most prosperous in the existence of the academy, and with the completion of the improvements now under way the outlook for the future is full of promise. |
