MARY HAGENBARTH, The Child Who Crowned the Statue of the Blessed Virgin Sunday Even-in Even-in q. . Nearly 100 children took part in the coronation ceremony at St. Mary's last Sunday evening- and the edifice was crowded with an edified and interested congregation. Bev. Father Kiely officiated, first saying the sosary and litany. The children chil-dren sang: a hymn. Miss Fitzpatrick being the soloist. Maida Hegnev next I read tle Act of Consecration, followed by a hymn with Clara Fafek as soloist.. Little Eugenia Mercier read the second Act of Consecration in a clear distinct voice that was audible all over the church, after which the children started around the church with Rev. Father Deneaf and the sanctuary bovs heading head-ing the procession. On reaching, the altar. Pkev. Father Kiely mot the little crowner, Marv Hagenbarth. The lovely little girl gracefully mounted the flower-draped ladder and placed an exquisite wreath of flowers on the statue of the Blessed Mother. She was followed by her brother David, who placed a beautiful bouquet at the foot of the statue. Then all the children left their wreaths on the altar and during the procession tiny Marguerite Mar-guerite Lock sang the pretty hymn, "Hail Mary." The crowner was attended by her brother, David, and Edward Coliins as flower and crown bearers. The maids of honor were Margaret O'Brien, Helen Kearns. Marie Hughes, Margaret Connelley, Gladys Hegney. Eugenia Mercier. Laurine Knight, Cassandra Word and Marv Woodward. The banner bearers were Florence Sullivan, Ruby Daniels, Louise Hoefer, Vera Neuhausen, Mary Marron. Mil-nerva Mil-nerva Shaw: the soloists were Clara Fafek. Kathleen Fitzpatrick and little Marguerite Locke: Eugenia Mercier and Gladys Hegney read the acts of ' consecration: John O'Brien, Warren Westcott and Oswald Seidenfaden were the pages. After the ceremony Rev. Father Kiely delivered an eloquent sermon on the Blessed Virgin. The sermon was a very interesting one, particularly for the non-Catholics, many being present. After the sermon, benediction of the Blessed Sacrament was given by Right Rev. Bishop Scanlan. The music was beautifully rendered by the St. Cecilia, chorus of the cathedral. ca-thedral. The children were in charge of Miss Little. Miss Buboltz and Miss Duguet, three very capable young ladies. |
