Show THE PASSION PLAY. Already there are numerous indications indica-tions that the influx of visitors to Oberammergau for next year's Pa3i-on Play will far surpass all previous pilgrimages. pil-grimages. From all parts cf Europe and America, and especially from France, numerous letters have reached the priest and village authorities, ask- uiii iii i ( 'i mm ion. it u r.itely settled that the first representation representa-tion will be on May 20, and that the last will be at the end of September. There will be twenty-eight performances perform-ances in all. Next month the roles will be allotted, and the rehearsals will be started immediately afterward. It is certain that Herr Josef Meyer will not take the part of Christ. His advancing age and increasing infirmities are the cause of this. At next year's performances perform-ances an attempt will be made to add dignity to the musical portion of the representation. The choruses hitherto have heen very weak. There will now be thirty-three choristers. The large new iron theatre, which will be entirely en-tirely covered in, and lighted by long narrow windows, is being rapidly proceeded pro-ceeded with. The stage will be in the open air. The auditorium will be 143 feet long and will accommodate 4.000 spectators. Two further improvements are also announced. There will be an office established for the purpose of assigning visitors suitable lodgings, and the tedious two hours' drive to the village from the railway will be abolished, abol-ished, as well-equipped electric motor cars' will take visitors from Oberau in half an hour. Needless to say, the villagers- do not like these departures. They say it will detract from the devotional devo-tional attitude which all visitors to the Passionsspiel are supposed to assume. |
