Show Magnificent Gift. Mrs. Thomas F. Ryan of New York City, wife of the street railwav magnate, mag-nate, has given $100,000 for the establishment estab-lishment and endowment of a convent of nuns of the Perpetual Adoration, in connection with St. Paul's parish in Washington. Mrs. Ryan is in Washington, Wash-ington, the guest of Miss Fannie Whelan, the moving spirit of the Catholic Tabernacle society. These nuns have their headauarters in Italy and none of them is at present in this country. They devote their lives to the continuous adoration of the Saviour. They also conduct retreats for distinguished women or for vounsr girls preparatory to marriage. Members of the order are all women of wealth and are expected upon taking tak-ing their vows to bring to the community com-munity a considerable dower.
