Show VIRGINIA CITY, NEV. Archie J. McDonnell, one of the best known men on the Comstock and well and favorably known throughout the entire state, died at his apartments apart-ments in the Ryan building In Virginia City Saturday afternoon, after a sickness sick-ness covering several months. Mr. McDonnell Mc-Donnell became sick about eight about eight months ago and his aliment ali-ment gradually developed into consumption. con-sumption. The best specialists In the country were visited, but no help could be rendered. The deceased toured through Europe hoping that the change would benefit him. He returned to his home In Virginia a couple of weeks ago. Deceased filled several political positions In Storey county and at one time was speaker of the Neveda legislature. legis-lature. At the time of his death he was superintendent of the Union Con., Sierra Nevada, PotosI mines, and was a recognized factor in Comstock mining min-ing affairs. He leaves several relatives In Canada, who have been notified of his death. He served as president of the Gold Hill Miners' union in the '60s, and always kept In touch with that organization. or-ganization. He was a member of the Comstock. Aerie, No. 623, Fraternal Order Or-der of Eagles, and of Reno lodge of Elks. The funeral of the late Joseph Gray took place from St. Patrick's church in Gold Hill Saturday forenoon, and many friends attended. |
