Show SKIRTS. The battle of skirts seems to have been temporarily settled, leaving very few doubts as to the fashionable choice between the habit back skirt and the 1'lahed skirt. There are various kinds of plaited skirts, but the latest reports from Paris verify all the early predictions predic-tions for the ultima'te success of the plaits. We are warned that the habit skirt is doomed: so it is plaits if you would be up to date. One pretty skirt, which is a plain one with an addition, Jis tueked in groups of three small tucks all the way around, is stitched down to within nine inches of the hem and fits Hie hips quite as closely as the habit ' Ekirt. All the skirts, however they may I oe plaited, are gored in a pretty flaring , smape so there is no superfluous full-j full-j wss around the h'ps except enough to i r"rm the plaits. The skirt with a box , 1-lait at the back is doubtless the favor-i favor-i ite model, but this is varied in different ays by adding groups of fine tuck3 r Plaits, stitched well down on either side of the box plait and possibly a group of five at either side of the front, or it may be stitched in tucks all around the Fkirt with spaces between the tucks. A feature of the gowns m here these tucks are employed is that the bodice is usually tucket to match. ;V skirt which is found in Paris in thin materials is box plaited all around. The I'iaits meeting and being well caught oown to the knees, below which they flare out gracefully. In another model the plaits begin at pither si f tv. front, and in both cases thev are well pressed and very fiat around the hips with no effect of fullness. Again, the box plaits are arranged with spaces between, be-tween, which are fitted in with a lace insertion. This is very pretty for crepe de chine and the fine thin poplinettes so much used. Three rows of insertion encircling the hips of a closelv plaited skirt are very effective, using" the top one for the belt finish and having wide spaces between. Other skirts are plaited plait-ed after the manner of a Scotch kilt the plaits being caught down in the usual way. The box plaits are usaully graduated a little in width, which improves im-proves the effect, and the skirt below where the plaits are fastened is some- j times finely tucked, making a very pretty finish for the hem. With all the variety in plaited skirts the plain one j with a double box plait in the back is most in evidence just at present. |
