Show WILL FIGHT THE TRUSTS. Denver, Colo., Jan. 24. The Colorado Editorial association which has just adjourned, ad-journed, has stirred all western newspaper news-paper publishers to action by adopting resolutions demanding of congress that it repeal the tariff on wood pulp and all materials entering into the manufac-i manufac-i ture of white print paper. The resolutions resolu-tions adopted are broad and far reaching. reach-ing. They pledge the association to oppose op-pose for re-election any member or senator in congress who does not favor the immed' e repeal of the duties mentioned. men-tioned. To the end that all the newspapers in America shall have a voice in this matter, mat-ter, the association appointed a committee com-mittee consisting of the Hon. T. M. Patter3on, F. J. Arkins and K. G. Cooper to issue a call to the publishers of America and it was given out to the press as follows: "This committee having been deputized depu-tized to act for the Colorado Editorial association invite the publishers of America to send representatives to the National Editorial association which meets in the city of New Orleans Feb. 26, during Mardi Gras, for the purpose of taking part in the discussion for the removal of the tariff on wood pulp and all matters entering into the manufacture manufac-ture of white paper. "The cost of white paper has advanced ad-vanced from D7 to 110 per cent within the past two years, seriously affecting every newspaper, large and small, and compelling many of them to raise their subscription rates. As has been aptly stated, a tax on white paper is. a tax on intelligence, and a tax on intelligence intelli-gence is an insult to mankind. "We respectfully urge that the large dailies of the country, through their bureaus and representatives in Washington, Wash-ington, interview and obtain from sena- tors and representatives in congress their views concerning the paper trust. and also their position as to the removal re-moval of the obnoxious tariff duties. "Representative Shackleford, early I this month, introduced a bill which j seems to meet the requirements of all newspapers, periodicals and magazines, i The Colorado Editorial association in ! its resolutions, placed the matters on I j broad grounds favoring the removal of I tariff on all classes of print paper. ! "By united action on the part of all ( large dailies we believe that the tariff may be removed at the present session of congress. There i9 no time to lose, and wo would remind all that there is; danger in delays. Paper dealers and agents calmly inform us that before the end of the year white paper will reach 5 cents per pound. "We urge all to immediate action. Not one paper, not one state, not one city, but every newspaper in every section of the country, regardless of political faith, for this is a non-partisan movement in the interest of the newspapers news-papers and therefore in the interest of the people. It may safely .be asserted that the entire press of the country dally, weekly and monthly, almost without exception, favor this measure all for one and one for all. It is common cause against the paper trust. "The committee request that all publishers pub-lishers who adopt this suggestion. either in whole or in part, shall write to Mr. K. C. Campbell, business man, ager of the Focky Mountain News, Denver, Colo., to the end that a list of I the newspapers in battle array against this modern monstrosity may be com-i com-i piled and published for the information informa-tion of every member and senator who doubts the unanimity of the newspapers of the country on the s-ubjects.
