Show POPULISTS TO MEET. . Will Hold Convention at Lincoln, Neb., About Feb. 15 to 20. Washington. Jan. 24. Senator Butler of North Carolina, the chairman of the People's party committee, will tomor row - ipsue call for a meeting of the national committee of that party at j Lincoln. Neb. The date has not yet been definitely settled, but will be about the 15th or 20th of next month. The committee will decide on the time and place for the next Populist convention. Senator Butler declares that there is no significance in the selection. "I asked the committees of the national na-tional committee," said he, "where thev . would like to meet and I feel bound I therefore to abide ' by their d ecision. j There was no majority vote for any one I Place but the plurality was in favor of ! Lincoln. I think this is due to the fact ; that the Populist state committee sent out word that it would be glad to en-: en-: tertain the committee there." j The action of the Populists, it is learned, is without the knowledge of Mr. Bryan. It is gaid that the first intimation in-timation of the proposed action will come to him when he reads the call which is to be issued tomorrow. A majority of the national committee it is learned now, favor holding the Populist convention some time in Major Maj-or early in June in order that Mr. Bryan Bry-an may be nominated before the Democratic Demo-cratic convention is held. No consideration consid-eration has yet been given as to his running mate upon the ticket. |
