Show Mora! Gangrens.' There were 1,101 suits for divorce in Philadelphia in 1909, as compared with 990 suits begun in 1908. These figures are suggestive of the progress of the moral gangrene that Is making its ravages rav-ages felt not only in Philadelphia, but in every part of the United States. It would be more widespread and more destructive de-structive if the Catholic church had not defended society from it in the way she has. Her uncompromising attitude, at-titude, has prevented the breaking up of thousands of homes, and has so warded off the countless evils resulting from the demoralization traceable to the severing sev-ering of the marital bonds. If the church had rendered no other service but this, it alone would entitle her to the profound gratitude of the nation, which Is so seriously threatened by the divorce evil. Freeman's Journal. |
