Show CONFIRMED WHILE IN PRISON. An interesting event occurred in the chapel of the state prison, Charleston. N. IT., December 10. when lit. Kev. J. G. Anderson, auxiliary bishop, fid-ministered fid-ministered the Sacrament of Confirmation to some of the inmates. The ceremony was preceded by a solemn high mass, celebrated by iiev. Augustine D. Malley of St. Mary's church, who is chaplain of the prison. Bishop Anderson presided and had for his chaplains lit. Bev. Mgr. I). J. O'Farrell. pastor ox the Church of St. Francis do Sales, Roxbury. and Rev. John W. MeMahon, D. I)., pastor of St. Mary's church. Over 800 prisoners, representing all creeds, attended the services, and forty, including two men sentenced to imprisonment for life, were confirmed by Bishop Anderson. Ten of these were converts. Their sponsors were Daniel J. Hurley, the former famous captain of the Harvard university football team, and James N. Clarke. |
