Show CONSISTORY TO BE HELD IN MARCH (Special Roman Correspondence.) Rome, January 11, 1910. 'The long-expected Consistory now seems assured for March. Only probably, however, for there are a number of important questions still pending concerning con-cerning it. One of these regards the elevation to the purple of the Nuncio at Vienna, Msgr. Granito di Belmonte. This has been already decided upon, but it has not been quite settled whether the Nuncio is to receive the Biretta in Rome from the hands of the Pope, or whether it is to be given him through the medium of the Austrian Emperor and the difference is more important than might appear at first sight Then there is a special difficulty diffi-culty in appointing a successor to him at the present pres-ent moment. That Msgr. Bello, Patriarch of Lisbon, Lis-bon, will be raised to the Sacred College at the next creation of Cardinals there can be no doubt, for the Concordat between the Holy See and Portugal Portu-gal contains a clause to that effect. At least one French Cardinal will be created, but it is impossible impossi-ble to say with certainty who he will be. The next thing most likely about the coming nominations is that there will be at least one Cardinal from the English-speaking world, and that there will be two creations in the Curia. Nearly three years ago we announced that the number of Cardinals in Curia would be gradually reduced during the present Pontificate Pon-tificate to about eighteen. As a matter of fact, twelve Cardinals of Curia have died and only five have been since appointed to occupy their place. At present the number is twenty-three, but of these Cardinal Oreglia has practically retired from active ac-tive life, and three or four of the others are invalids and rarely seen at the meetings of the Congregations.
