Show LOCKOUT IN GEORGIA. Mill Owners Take Action to Forestall a Strike. Augusta, Ga., April 2. The following notice, signed by the president of the mill, which was posted, was put on the bulletin board in every cotton mill in the Augusta district today: "Owing to demand made upon the J. P. King Manufacturing company for an advance of 10 per cent, accompanied by a notice that if not granted its operatives would refuse to work after Saturday, April 5, and said demand having been refused, notice is hereby given to the employes of this company tnat should such a strike be inaugurated, inaugur-ated, this mill will close indefinitely on the evening of Tuesday, April 8." This order is a result of the decision of the Manufacturers' association to fight the union. It means that if the strike goes on in the King mill every mill in Augusta, Graniteville, Aiken, Warrenville, Vancluz and Langley will be closed, throwing 10,000 operatives out of work. Union leaders insist that the strike will take place Monday, although al-though many operatives are opposed j to it. Hod Carriers Quit In Chicago. Chicago, April 2. All of the bituminous bi-tuminous coal mines of the Rochester & Pittsburg Iron & Coal company are-idle are-idle today. The resolutions declaring for a strike were obeyed by all of the men, and 10,000 miners are idle. The men will insist on recognition of the miners' union.
