Show P0CATELL0 IS REPUBLICAN. Complete Returns Show Party in Control Con-trol of Council. Pocatello, Ida.. April 2. Complete returns re-turns of yesterday's city election here disclose the fact that three Republicans were elected Dr." O. B. Steely, mayor; R. M. Pypcr, councilman, and Mrs. Jane Darrah. treasurer. It was given out late last night that Pvper had been defeated in the Third ward by N. P. Nielson. but the final count gave the plum to Pyper. The election of Steely and Pyper to the council puts the administration in the hands of the Republicans, as there are three holdover Republicans from tne present administration. The Fourth ward was a lively battleground, battle-ground, the rivals being V. G. Lane, Democratic, and Noah S. Pond, Republican, Republi-can, candidate for the council. Both men are popular in their ward. Lane being one of the oldest conductors in point of service serv-ice on the Short Line, having run a train here and on the Fnion Pacific between Ogden and Evanston in the early history of these roads. He is now running between be-tween Pocatello and Butte. Pond has spent the greater portion of his life in Pocatello and is now in the grocery business. busi-ness. The two ran neck and neck. Lane finally winning by a small margin. Roe'der, for city engineer on the Democratic Demo-cratic ticket, had a walk-away over Stephenson, the Republican candidate. T. II Davis. Democrat, for clerk, defeated Temple O. Smith, the present incumbent. Mrs. Darrah succeeds herself as treasurer. |
