Show "HELD 11V THE ESEMV." The Suit Lake Home t'luli I'reseut.s II at the Opera llou.se. The Salt Lake Home Dramatic Club presented "Held by the Enemy" at the opera house last Saturday evening. The house was packed from gallery to parquette. This war drama is an exciting piece; it was warmly received; the applause was generous. The voice of the prompter was rather a too audible factor, however. We can overlook this fault in our loud Thespians, but in "traveling troupes," hardly. But, throughout, there was a marked improvement in the rendition of Saturday night over the presentation of the same in Logan about a year ago. Of course. Miss Belle Gilbert was the favorite. Her simple, yet exquisite, costuming; costum-ing; her sweet, graceful, unassuming unassum-ing womanly bearing immediately won the heart of the audience. She has a clear, touching voice; an air the opposite of boldness and ostentation. She is certainly a charming actress. E. II. Peirce, one of our old local favorites, had not a part in which to distinguish himself as of yore, but the audience , was pleased to see him just the same. Messrs. Spencer and Wells I arc always good. ''Esmeralda'' was presented hist . night. |
