Show USGALAUTtJ UUl'JS By Marlene Haws 826-4859 Jerry and Sherree Roundy have gone back to their assignment assign-ment in Nauvoo and will be there now until April. I received a letter from former for-mer resident, Shirlene Spencer. She was married first to Garland Imlay in Escalante. He was killed in a hunting accident. She then married Jim Roberts and moved to New Mexico. He passed away after a battle with cancer. She married John Cusolito in Ruidoso Downs, N.M. in October, 2001. January 3rd she retired as Postmaster of Ruidoso Downs. She and I met periodically at State and National Conventions when I was Postmaster here in Escalante. We always thought it ironic that two gals from the same class in Escalante schools became Postmasters. Especially since neither of us had aspirations aspira-tions in that direction when we were going to school. I retired in January of '92 with 26 years service. Shirlene has 38 years. Rolain Alvey and Faye Lyman went to Las Vegas, Nev. last weekend to visit Faye's daughter Brandy Sandifer. Lane and Geraldine Liston went to Las Vegas for the weekend week-end to visit Ron and Linda Mecham and celebrate their wedding anniversary. On my way home from Escalante City Council meeting last Monday night I had to stop in the street between Yukon Norman's house and Frank Venuti's to let a big buck cross the street. There were more coming out of Yukon's lot, but I didn't wait to see how many. They like the apples and green grass that is still showing in some lots and the mild weather we have been having. And if barking dogs in the early morning morn-ing hours are a sign that they are wandering, we have a lot of them around right now. Matt and Jo Ellynd Bulloch, Cedar City came over for an overnight stay with Jo's parents, Norman and Ardis Christensen. Apparently, even though she hasn't lived here in a long time, Jo hasn't changed all that much. I hear she still has to drag Main (at least once) every time she comes into town before she can go home! Jared and Cassidy Lyman have moved to Johns Valley where they will manage the ranch formerly owned by the Steed family. We will miss them, but they are close enough that they can come back for a visit every once in a while. Twila Mclnelly is going to Hurricane to help Kent and Phyllis Mclnelly quilt! I told her to take a picture for me. I remember when Kent was trying to learn to water ski, he said he had seen every inch of the floor of Lake Powell. His Mom says he is doing quite well with the quilting! Kent, if it pays well maybe you and I could work together again. I could be the truck driver this time and you could deliver the quilts! Thirteen members of the Escalante Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers gathered for their monthly dinner din-ner meeting at the senior citizen center on Thursday evening. In attendance were: Carolyn Porter, Velma Boulter, Sue Mosier, Golda Cottam, Lana Christian, Twila Mclnelly, Sheila Faulkner, Florence Alvey, Sandra Porter, Marlene Haws, Deon Alvey and Sue Bassett. Twila was installed as Chaplain to replace the late LaRue Spencer. Ann Spencer was released as registrar and Sue Bassett was installed in her place. ; - Quite a few people around here have black and blue marks! Deon Alvey has a black eye, Ike ; Sevy has a black hip (he says) and Julie Barney has bruised knees. You will have to get the ; -; details from them. I do know that Deon says Arnold gave her ; . her black eye for their 49th wed-ding wed-ding anniversary. Of course -'. Arnold has a different story! 'And the ice HAS been pretty -; slick around here lately! Mac and Jo Barney, Cedar City, have been frequent visitors at the home of Mac's mom, Grace Barney. Cris and Jana Haycock, Cedar City, have also visited here quite a lot lately with Cris's folks, Charlene and Jimmy Woolsey and grandparents Gordon and Almeda Haycock. That gives them a chance to observe the growth and progress of the new little grandbaby. Bart, Joy, Clayton and Ashley Carter spent the holidays in Arizona and have been back and forth a lot since Bart went to work down there. Cecildawn Porter visited her sister, Verda Oldham, in Panguitch before the Oldhams went to Arizona for a while. Their brothers, Shirel Houston, Layton Houston and Blaine Houston of Ogden, came to Escalante to pay an overnight visit to Cecildawn and her fami- iy- Wade and Shelley Barney made a trip to Salt Lake. They are first time grandparents. Their daughter and son-in-law, Candance and David Shakespear, are the parents of a new baby boy. Shelly is up there helping out for a few days. Wade came back to go to work. Marlene Stowe has been in St. George for bank training meetings. She was there when her sister, Brenda Griffin, had to be taken to the hospital with blood clots in her leg. She and Ann Haws were able to visit Brenda and attend to her needs. Donnie Randall is in the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake for surgery. sur-gery. Her husband Kim is with her. . Dave Barondeau has been seriously ill and is also facing surgery. Danny and Sherrie Meisenbach got back home to California after, spending the holidays here. Danny was called to be a counselor in the LDS bishopric in his ward in Orange, Calif. Lewis and Jean Griffin spent three days in St. George ("seeing ("see-ing the sun." Jean said). They stopped here to check things out . before returning to their home in Provo. Francis and Barbara Imlay were in Cedar City last week for Francis's check-up following his knee surgery. He has to get this one working good so he can have the other one done. Carolyn Porter and Butch Bacon were scheduled for knee surgery this week. It's almost like a knee epidemic. Pat Woolsey took Clea Woolsey to Cedar City for doctor doc-tor appointments. Sharon Dale has been back and forth to Cedar City checking on his mom Thelma Marsh. Reports are that she is doing better. bet-ter. Ryan Marsh, Cedar City, Sharon Dale's son, spent the weekend here with him last week. Others who were in Cedar City for doctor appointments and shopping last week were: Arnold and Deon Alvey, Julie Barney, Velma Boulter, Clorene Vidrine, Marlene Haws, Golda Cottam, Carrie Griffin, Max Porter, Jeris and Bonnie Liles, Ed and Camille Shakespear, Jimmy and Beth Woolsey. Julie Barney took a bus load of senior citizens over and stopped in Panguitch to pick Blaine Willis up to give him a day out and to do some shopping. |
