Big Jim Cares For Big Ben PANGUITCH Former Panguitch Pan-guitch resident, Jim Sevy, who retired re-tired in 1990, said he was through working. That is until he got the chance to tend and care for the world's largest black Clydesdale horse, Big Ben. Ben weighs 2600 pounds and is 19.1 hands high. He is owned by Jerry and Ginny Andres of Redmond, Oreg. Jerry Andres is also CEO of Silver Mountain Ski and Summer Resort located in Kellogg, Ida. Silver Mountain boasts the world's longest gondola which whisks guests 3.1 miles from the valley floor in Kellogg to the ski area's Mountain Haus lodge that sits at an elevation of 5700 feet. Sevy spent his young life riding rid-ing and gathering cattle for many of the stockmen in Panguitch such as, Tom Sevy, Tom Dodds and Cal Tebbs, to name a few. After Sevy left Panguitch, he worked in underground mining and construction and earned the nickname "Big Jim." He is 77 years old, the oldest child of Ray and Inez Sevy. In October, he and his wife, Oma, daughter of John and Ina Thompson, will have been married for 58 years. Pictured with Jim and Big Ben is Peggy Prolo. Peggy is the relief person for Jim two days a week; she takes great delight in pampering pamper-ing and spoiling Big Ben. Sevy says Ben is definitely a ladies man is quite the handful to straighten out when Peggy isn't around. |
