Show Panguitch News By Mamie Talbot 676-8084 Paul Hathcock is taking a sabatical leave this next year to attend the University of Utah. Neucile Yardley says thank you to everyone who helped gather histories and put together the booklet "Panguitch Pioneer Legacy, " for the special Pioneer Day project. Some of the books are still available at the courthouse, court-house, the Snowed In Quilt Shop, and the DUP museum. Ask there about the price. - The sparrows and blackbirds are traveling around the valley in their respective clusters and an occasional crow makes up about all the birds seen. A few yellow leaves are dropping to take place of the birds. Thanks to those faithful folks who mowed down the unsightly fringe of weeds at the edge of the grass. It makes the streets look much better. Quite a number of folks are getting their sewer hook-ups in place. Harold and Rena Orton have moved north where Harold has a school job. Rena has been teaching teach-ing here while Harold finished his college work in Cedar City. He is Gary and Collen Orton's son. Dick and Jan Excell were happy to have daughter Shawna, and her son and a girlfriend here for a time. The girl friend is from Sicily. Dick said Shawna' s fourth missionary son has just received his mission call. Irene McEwen is a resident of the Care Center in St. George. She has been home here for a time this summer. The first day of school started with a bang. One little boy got a gash on his head by running into an immovable object and little Shianne Miller fell from the monkey mon-key bars, receiving a broken arm. She was anxious for "show and tell" so that she could show off her arm cast. On Aug. 10, the Wally Lee family presented the program in Panguitch LDS Third Ward Sacrament Sac-rament meeting. Wally and Kelly and kids Brendon, Steve and Joyce all talked and Joyce gave a musical number. Shannon Fisher and Derrick Veater were the Youth Speakers. The Panguitch LDS Second Ward speakers were Bishop Kenneth Ken-neth Miller, who talked about the beauty and simplicity of the Gospel Gos-pel of Jesus Christ. Counselor Denny Orton discussed what commitment to a way of life can do for us. Counselor Phil Singleton Single-ton spoke of unconditional surrender surren-der to the Lord. Youth speakers were Pepper Hatch, who talked on the subject of "Why Seminary." Semi-nary." Mark Tebbs spoke about the timely subject of "Sportsmanship", and Laura Pier- son sang a lovely song. Those who were sustained in Panguitch Second Ward Sacrament Sacra-ment meeting were Chad Black, Doug Evans and Dale Orton as the new Sunday School Presidency Presi-dency and Bill Benson as Secretary. Secre-tary. Wayne Ross was sustanined as the new Gospel Doctrine teacher and Lucile Proctor was sustained as program director and Debbie and Randy Hatch as activities ac-tivities directors. Heath Hatch, son of Randy and Debbie Hatch, has received an LDS mission call to the Houston Hous-ton Texas mission. Issac Mathews of the Panguitch 4th Ward has been called to the Chicago Chi-cago Illinois mission. The Bill and Lonnie Matthews family live in the former Linda Jackson home. Wallace and Joan Lee are spending the summer at Panguitch Pan-guitch Lake. Their winter home is in St. George. Don and Tony Stowell and kids Caleb and Sarah have been at momgrandmas Merle Stowell the past week. Their son Sean will be home from his mission in September. Joslyn Michelle Christy, daughter of Mary Jane and the late Bill Christy, will be married to Jacob Wendell Cook on Sept. 12. Folks are enjoying the circus that is going on at the fair grounds this week. Judy P. Henrie accompanied her sister, Mildred Brown of Richfield Rich-field and longtime friend and neighbor growing up together in Circleville, Kathryn Crane Esplin, now of Flagstaff, Ariz, on a trio. They joined 68 others from the Utah area, and Panaca, Nev. They flew from Las Vegas to Rochester, N.Y., then went by two busses to Niagara Falls, Can. They visited 21 LDS church history his-tory sites from Palmyra, N.Y. to Winter Quarters, Neb. They shopped at an Amish market and ate an authentic Amish meal at the home of an Amish couple in Shipshewanna, Indiana. They also attended church in Canandaigua, NY and Overland, Kan. They visited with John LeFevre of Tropic, who is serving a mission in Nauvoo, Illi. at the blacksmith shop. They also attended two plays in Nauvoo, one at the cultural hall and one at the Visitors Center. They then flew back to Las Vegas from Omaha, Nebr. A wonderful time |
