Show Travel Shows Promote Southern Utah Travel More than a million potential visitors have been exposed to Color Country through travel shows this past winter. Alma Truman, executive secretary secre-tary of the Color Country Travel Council, who recently returned from a travel and recreation show in San Mateo, Calif., said, "We are anticipating a good increase in visitors to the national parks and Color County this year. The area is becoming more popular, and tourists are now talking about staying longer." Color Country participates with a booth in nine travel shows in California, Arizona, Nevada, and Utah during the first three months of the year. "Our purpose," Truman . said, "is to promote tourism and increase the length f a tourist's stay in Color Counuy. We pass out brochures and talk one-on-one with thousands of potential visitors each year. What is really gratifying is to have people come to. the. booth and tell us that because of the information we gave them, last year, they stayed an extra week or two in Color Country. Attending a travel show is a cooperative co-operative effort. "It takes about 36 people from the five counties, and the travel council to man the booths. Over 1,000 man hours are expended and 80 percent of the time is donated," Truman said. Garfield County has been pro-' pro-' moling tourism with Color Country Coun-try at travel shows for 23 years. . Bob Benficld, chairman of the Garfield County Travel. Council, and a member of the Color Country board, attended the Anaheim travel show in January and will be attending the Phoenix show April 5 through 9. "The travel shows we attend always feature Bryce Canyon National Park," Benficld said. "This year we are able to pro-mole pro-mole two of Utah's most scenic highways in Garfield County with our new brochure Scenic Routes 12 and 143. The travel shows have been one of our best promotional opportunities," Benficld added. Other Garfield travel council members attending travel shows are .Rosalca Caldwell, Barbara Corliss, 'Bruce Fullmer, and John Houston. |
