Show i Garfield Students Compete For Sterling Honors Eighteen Garfield County high l school seniors will be among 122 students representing 13 high I schools and five school districts I competing for awards and honors in i Tf jjjg nth annual Southwest Utah Sterling Scholar competition set for Thursday night, April 6 at the Southern Utah State College auditorium audi-torium in Cedar City. Len Randolph, KSL Television chief meteorologist will be master of ceremonies at this year's award j program beginning at 7 p.m. j Beginning at 5 p.m., a banquet to honor the Sterling Scholar finalists final-ists and their parents or guardians, will feature Astronaut Don Lind, former Utah State professor, as guest speaker, and Van Bushnell, SUSC professor, as master of ceremonies. cere-monies. Finalists from Beaver, Bryce Valley, Cedar City, Dixie, Enterprise, Enter-prise, Escalante, Hurricane, Mil-ford, Mil-ford, Panguitch, Parowan, Pine View and Valley High Schools will compete for scholarships in 12 categories: cat-egories: English, performing arts, mathematics, social science, science, sci-ence, foreign language, industrial education, home economics, business busi-ness education, music, visual arts, and general scholarship. A winner and two runncrs-up selected in each category will be announced at the evening program where they will receive Sterling Scholar pins. All finalists will receive Sterling Scholar certificates. In addition, colleges and universities univer-sities are offering full tuition scholarships to winners and many are offering part tuition scholarships scholar-ships to runncrs-up. Competing as finalists from Panguitch High School will be Kimbcrly Gillies (English and literature), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Gillies; Russcl Harris (mathematics), son of Mr. and Mrs. David Harris; Cody Baldwin (science), son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Baldwin; James Matthews (vocational educationindustrial arts), son of Mr. and Mrs. Verl Matthews; Tonya Judd (homemaking), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jcrold Judd; Nanette Covington Coving-ton (business education), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Covington; Tiffany Robinson (music), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Robinson; and Suzette Holman (general scholarship), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Laurel Holman. Entering as finalists from Escalante Es-calante High School will be Trudy Gracie (business education), daugh-, daugh-, tcr of Mr. and Mrs. LaMar Gracie; and Stacy Davis (music), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Davis.
