Show Support Bond Election Editor: The New Escalante High School Committee urges the citizens of Garfield County to support the upcoming bond election on July 29. It is our understanding that the county has enough incoming revenue at the present time, even with the most conservative financial projections for the next few years, to build a new Escalante High School without raising taxes! By passing a public bond instead of the school board obtaining the necessary funds, money can actually be saved. We also know how extremely important it is for a county to pull together in order to experience growth and progress. Escalante supported the bond for Panguitch to get their new high school. Tropic will need our assistance in the near future to update their buildlings. If we unite and help each other, everyone benefits. Up-to-date facilities in each community make the whole county look more attractive. at-tractive. In its present state, Escalante High School is no longer adequate for required educational programs. It has been condemend by the State Fire Marshall because it does not comply with the State Fire Code of Standards. The Public Health Inspector, In-spector, in a recent inspection of EHS, identified many problems and recommended that the only practical prac-tical solution is to build a new high school. The State Building Inspector commented that EHS was in one of the worst conditions he had seen in his recent inspection of all Utah schools. Just a few of the problems are inadequate lighting, outlets, and wiring; crumbling mortar, bricks, and cement; steps without guardrails; guar-drails; insufficient locker space for students and storage space for staff ; and overall run-down and outdated conditions of present buildings. There are five totally separate buildings: remodeling or continued piecemeal solutions will no longer do. A totally new complex on a less-cramped less-cramped site is actually the most cost-effective solution. Therefore, the members of the committee and also the Escalante High School faculty and students, parents, and concerned citizens of Escalante urge you to vote "YES" in the upcoming bond election. Anyone with questions, comments, or a desire to see the facilities should contact Principal Myron Cottam (826-4600) or other members of the committee or faculty.
