Show Freedom's Price? Editor: What is the price we have to pay to protect our rights and freedom? During the Korean conflict I left my new bride and along with thousands of American men and boys was sent to help protect and restore the freedom and rights of the people in South Korea. I saw tlie destruction of their cities and the miseries of war. I saw the wounded and maimed soldiers; testifying of .the awful cost being paid. I have no doubt that if all the money spent for the war was used to buy real estate, that all the peninsula of Korea could have been purchased, and given back to the people. The war was not for real estate, it was for rights and freeodm and a higher price was required. It was a wonderful experience to return in one piece to good old America, the 'Home of the Free' hoping to leave contention and conflict behind forever. It seems this was not to be. Rights and freedom are something that need to be guarded and protected or they will slip through your grasp. For the past several months our family has been in a struggle to preserve the right to own and operate our family farm as we should be able to. We have been forced to hire an attorney to help retain a grazing lease we have had for seven years, but was taken from us by the state of Utah and given to Steed Ranches. This lease is just part of a determined threat to squeeze us from the valley. Win or lose, this lease will undoubtedly be the most expensive grazing in the history of the state. The lease itself isn't worth the cost, but our rights are. Rex D. Sandberg Tropic, Utah 84776 |
