Show Voters To Name Choices In Tt $Hs?g0.r ction Voters In eight Garfield County communities will go to the polls Tuesday, Nov. S to elect municipal officials. Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close ta 8 p.m. In some communities, there is not a full slate of candidates to fill the empty slots on city officials, so write-ins are expected. A light turnout is expected in those communities where there is no opposition on the ballot, but in Panguitch, Escalante and Hatch, interesting contests are shaping up. In two communities, Henrieville and Tropic, there are not enough candidates filed to fill the posts that are open. In Panguitch, incumbent Mayor Jon Lee Torgerson is running for reelection unopposed, but seven candidates are vying for the two four-year council posts that are open: Hick E. Burningham, G. Bruce Dalton, Gregory Don Excell, F. Grant Houston, Delin Garn Roundy, Robert D. Smith and Rick Swaoger. Panguitch residents will also respond to an information gathering question on the ballot, the outcome of which will be binding neither on Panguitch residents nor Pangutich City Government. The city is asking its voters "Shall the city council of Panguitch investigate and undertake a feasibility study to determine whether a municipal power system could be operated in Panguitch City?" Panguitch residents, combined into one precinct for the municipal election, will vote in the office of the county recorder In the courthouse. In Escalante, Arnold Alvey and Wade Barney are both seeking the mayor's position being vacated by W.M. Mohr Christensen who is one of the nine seeking the two four-year council positions that are open. Others are Gregg Christensen, Don D. Coleman, Mason Dale Lyman, Reed L. Munson, Kent C. Robinson, Anne C. Spencer, Sheldon Steed and Stanley L. Stowe. Escalante voters will vote at the community center. Hatch residents will vote for one of three people running for mayor: Incumbent Mervln J. Barnhurst, Rose Elaine Deuel, or Mayall H. Sawyer. Four candidates are seeking the two four-year seats on the council: Robert Evans, Reva H. Lowder, Leland Rlggs and Calvin Wilson and two are seeking the single two-year post: Homer Dutton and Gary L. 'Fagg. i Hatch residents will vote at the , town hall. '; In Antimony, Alma Lynn Savage ' is running unopposed for mayor and three people, Koaml Delange, Eugene King and Kasey A. King, are competing for the two-four year council posts. Antimony residents vote at the LDS cultural hall in Antimony. In Boulder, incumbent Mayor Donna Wilson Is seeking reelection unopposed and three are competing for the two four-year council seats: Anthony Coombs, Gladys H. LeFevre and Kim Lyman. Boulder residents vote at the town hall. Cannonville has three openings and three people running for office, Michael J. Clarke for mayor, and John Mathews and James Choates for the two four-year council posts. In Tropic, Ella Adair is seeking election, unopposed, to the mayor's post. She had been serving as a council member when she was appointed to mayor to fill the term of Jay Littlefield who resigned. LaMar Feltner, an incumbent council member, is seeking the two-year council post and Helma Haas who has been serving as an appointed council member is keeking election to one of the four-year posts. The second four-year post has no candidate. Tropic residents will vote at the Scout House. In Henrieville, there is no candidate for mayor and only one candidate for the two four-year council positions: Janet S. LeFevre. Henrieville residents will vote at the town hall. |
