Show Education Specialist Addresses Local Meet Former Garfield County School District counselor Joe Rickards, now serving as Community Education Specialist with the Utah State office of Education, was guest speaker at last Thursday evening's weekly meeting of the Education Reform Committee for Panguitch Middle School and Panguitch High School. Rickards spoke to the group about various methods for efficiently and effectively reporting their finds and recommendations to the school board. He presented several ideas for writing the report and provided information on effective visual and oral presentation. Following his 45-minute presentation, the group divided into sub-groups to hear members' reports. The curriculum committee reports centered mainly around issues of teaching staff teaching within the area of their professional training. They also discussed some scheduling difficulties which were encountered. The extra-curriculum group also heard part of a series of reports from members, the focus of which involved three principal areas. The first area of concern centered on current eligibility requirements and the possible addition of stricter rules. The second area of concern involved programs currently structured as extra-curricular and the possibility of adding of more programs by. deleting others. The final area of concern discussed was the cost of equipment and uniforms and the quality of equipment in the boys' and girls' physical education programs. Assignments were accepted by various committee members to begin interviewing townspeople for their concerns and opinions. The public is encouraged to attend the next meeting of the Education Reform Committee set for Thursday evening, April 5 at 7 p.m. at the Panguitch High School library. |
