Show Winners Listed In Reflections Contest PTA Regional Director Dcbra McKee reported the results of the regional annual PTA Reflections contest. "What Makes Me Smile", this year's theme, was reflected in the great number of entries and the higher quality of work than in previous years, she said. "Each year the contest gets better and better." Competing for prizes were school winners from elementary, junior high and high schools in Garfield and Kane counties. In the art division prizes went to Jaime White, Kanab Elementary fifth grader for her oil painting of a baby cougar; to Chad Good-fellow, Kanab Elementary fourth grader, for his water color of an eagle; to Allen Riggs, Panguitch High School senior, for his water color of a ranch scene; to Trisha Coughlin, Escalante Elementary sixth grader, for her collage of horses; and to Lcnza Wilson, Escalante Elementary third grader for his ink drawing of a print shop. Honorable mention went to Christian Matthews, Panguitch Elementary third grader for his crayon drawing of a desert scene and to Ryan Houston, Panguitch Middle School seventh grader, for his pencil drawing of a rock cabin. In the literature division prizes went to Ray Holt, Panguitch High School eleventh grader for his narrative; to Wendy I larris, also a PI IS eleventh grade student, for her poem; to Peter Frandsen, Panguitch Middle School eighth grader, for his narrative; to Terry Baldwin, Panguitch Middle School sixth grader, for her poem; and to Candice Swanger, Panguitch Elementary third grader, for her poem. Honorable mention went to Can-dance Haws, Escalante Elementary fourth grader, for her poem. In the music division, Darin Whittaker, Kanab elementary fourth grader won a prize for his piano solo and Natalie Coombs, Escalante Elementary, was awarded a prize for her alto saxophone solo. During the judging of the Fourth Annual Reflections contests, all entries were unidentified as to owners. There were one each art and literature judges from Bryce Valley, Panguitch and Kanab. Winning entries will all be sent to state competition on March 11 at the state office of the PTA in Salt Lake City. Winners will remain in Salt Lake City until the annual state PTA convention at Brigham Young University in Provo to be held in May. They will be displayed for everyone attending the conveniton to see. Mrs. McKee noted that many entries were completed at home, indicating support from parents for the contest. |
