Show Snowpack Averages Above Normal on Most Watersheds Snow depth and moisture content statistics for local areas have been released by the Panguitch office of the Soil Conservation Service. The readings have been taken on a monthly basis since 1926. Soil Conservation officer Dale Baldwin indicated that the December-January statistics are available but are not considered significant to agriculture since they can change so much from day to day. February and March snows can also alter the statistics considerably but Soil Conservation employees can make much better judgements after January, Up until two weeks ago for example, all local areas were running at 100 percent or above of normal but recent weather changes and lack of significant snowfall have altered those figures rapidly. For Widtsoe snow course No. 3, snow depth is 37 inches and moisture content 10.5 inches for 127 percent of normal; Long Valley Junctiom has 1( Inches of snow with a moisture content of 2.8 inches for 70 percent of normal; and Duck Creek has 28 inches of snow with 8 inches of moisture for 75 percent of normal. Harris Flat has 20 inches of snow with 4.8 inches of moisture for 70 percent of normal; Panguitch Lake has 15 inches of snow with 3.6 inches of moisture for 95 percent of normal; Castle Valley has 33 inches of snow with 11.5 inches of moisture for 108 percent of normal; and Midway has 41 Inches of snow with 12.2 inches of moisture for 73 percent of normal. |
