Show 5 Area 4 A Obituaries Ohmmt K. Nielsen Osmer Keith Nielsen, 66, Parowan, prominent southern Utah banker, church and civic leader, died Feb. 28, 1982 at his home in Parowan. He was born May 2, 1915,Salina,toWilford W. and Minnie Curtis Nielsen. He married Elizabeth Cottam of Park City in 1936; later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. He began his banking career at the First State Bank of Salina in 1934, continuing there until 1959 when he became cashier-manager of the Bank of Iron County in Parowan. Under his guidance, the bank now has branches in Escalante and LaVerkin. He served as executive vice president of the Bank of Iron County Board; first president of the Southern Utah BIA; three terms on the Small Business Association Advisory Board and was on the board of the Utah Bankers Assn. In April, 1980, he was named Agent of the Month for Kansas City Life Insurance Co. He was a past mayor of Parowan and chairman of the library board. He was instrumental in getting the second freeway interchange into Parowan from Interstate- 15. While in Salina, Mr. Nielsen was a member of the Second Ward bishopric and served in many other capacities of the LDS Church. For 25 years he was secretary of the Piute Reservoir Irrigation Co. Active in civic affairs, Mr. Nielsen was a 20-year charter member of the Parowan Lions Club; member of BPOE; officer in the Exchange Club and member of the Gun and Rod Club. He was a booster of youth, ' especially in 4-H and ' education. ' Survivors : wife, Parowan; sons, ' daughter, Warren, Hacienda Heights, Calif.; Allen K.. Richfield: Kathryn Allen, Parowan; 15 grandchildren; brother, Howard, Salina. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in the Parowan Third Ward church. Friends may call Wednesday at Warren R. Jensen Funeral Home in Salina from 7 to 9 p.m.; Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Boyer Funeral Home, Parowan; and Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Parowan Third Ward church. Burial will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery. |
