Escalante Pair Sterling Scholars ESCALANTE -Escalante High school seniors John Bayles and Tracy Mitchell will represent Escalante High School at the Sterling Scholar, competition in April. Supporters of the two scholars have raised a total of $475 for the two sterling scholars. Bayles will compete in the general education category and Mitchell in the business category. In order for the two students to enter competition, their school needed $250 as well as 90 cents for each student in grades 9 through 12, or a total of about $350. Supporters also wanted to raise another $50 for each contestant so that they would be certain to at least have a consolation scholarship if they failed to succeed for the big ones at the Sterling Scholar competition. Calling door-to-door on everyone in Escalante were Carol and Dixie Mitchell and Sharon Bayles. The three women said they felt overwhelmed by the generosity of the donors and quickly reached their goal. Donations came in from busineses and private individuals. |
