Show Bear, Cougar, Turkey Seasons Set for Utah . The 1981 bear seasons have been set for April 16, to June 30, and September 1, to October 15. Areas of the state closed to bear hunting are Box Elder, Cache, Rich, Weber, Morgan, Tooele, Davis, Salt Lake, Utah and Juab counties, .j-Three restricted bear permits will be. availabTe on a drawing basis for ' Summit County. Persons wishing to obtain a . restricted permit must ' make written application to the Northern Region, including the applicant's I name, address, small game or combination license number, and the I words "Summit County Black Bear Permit Application" written on the envelope. Applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. April 10. A drawing will be held on April 13, if the hunt is oversubscribed. A Utah resident must obtain a small game license ($8.00) and a bear permit ($15.00) to hunt bear in the state. The season limit is one bear. The general 1981-82 cougar season was set for November 1, 1981, to April 15, 1982. areas of the state closed to cougar hunting or restricted by permit only, and portions of southern Utah open year round to taking cougar are tne same as for the 1980-81 season. Closed to the taking of cougar are Davis, Rich and Salt Lake counties, part of Utah county and a small part of the Boulder Mountain Escalante River area in southern Utah. Northern Utah counties are open to the taking of cougar by restricted permit only. These are Box Elder, 2 permits; Cache, 7 permits; Morgan, 2 permits; Summit, 3 permits; and Weber, 4 permits. The wildlife board approved a regulation that only male cougars may be taken in these counties of the Northern Region. In areas where only male cougars may be taken, evidence of sex must be attached to the hide or carcass. The spring turkey season has been set for May 2 to May 17, 1981. In addition to Iron, Kane ami WncViinfTt An vitintioe and Garfield County west of Highway U.S. 89, all open last year, the wildlife board also opened Grand County and a portion of San Juan County north of State Highway 46 and east of Highway U.S. 163 to the taking of wild turkeys during the season. A wild turkey hunter must obtain a small game license and a $3.00 wild turkey permit, which may be purchased from any division office between April 13 and the end of the season. |
