Show Desert Downs Races Slated for May 1-2 ESCALANTE Escalante's 70 member Riding Club has plans underway for its annual Desert Downs race meet scheduled May 1 and 2. Meet president Darrel Alvey reports that 70 horses have been entered for the meet thus far. The group also has plans for the near future for a ride and camping trip to Pictured are officers of the 70-member Escalante Hiding Club. During the past year the club hosted a breakfast for Gov. and Mrs. Scott Matheson and a dinner for Escalante Sawmills, Inc. along with campouts and trail rides for members. They also sponsored their first endurance ride which brought riders from as far away as Nevada, Wyoming, Arizona, ana Colorado to participate. The group is already planning this year's endurance ride which is expected to be even bigger and better. Special officers have been elected for the endurance ride with Millard Dumas elected president and Beverly Kuhns, secretary. Serving as president of the club is Arnold Alvey with Marlene Haws as secretary and board members Smith Avley, Robert Liston and John Norman, LaFaye Bailey is serving as secretary for the Deseret Downs Race Meet. |
