Show County Boys Ready For Olympic Event TROPIC Fundraising efforts to send three local boys and their coach to1 the 1981 International Winter Special Olympic Games at Stowe, Vermont, March 8-13 are proving successful. Instructor Frank Venuti, Bryce Valley School, who also serves as coach for the three special boys will leave with his charges on Friday. Chip Dutton, Cannonville, Doug Davis, Escalante, and William Pollock will travel with Venuti first to Salt Lake City for an orientation meeting at the airport Holiday Inn. The state and national offices of the Special Olympics provided the funds necessary to make the trip and local fundraising efforts will reimburse the two. Major fundraising efforts were conducted in the Cedar City area by the Coca Cola Bottling Company, and the Arctic Circle. Private donations came in from Dawn Stock and Virgil and LaFaun Pollock and others. Local businesses contributing were Escalante sawmills, and Valley Finance, both Escalante; Ahlstrom's, Grocery and Country Corner, both Tropic; and Little Indian Curio and Bryce Way Restaurant, Panguitch. The Garfield County School District and Bryce Valley Student body, where the three attend school, also added to the fund. Bryce Valley students sponsored a movie "At War With the Army" on Tuesday where refreshments were sold, with all proceeds contributed to help the three attend the International Winter Special Olympics. Venuti was informed by Special Olympics authorities that because fundraising had gone so well each Garfield County participant would receive complimentary ski pants and jacket, two turtleneck sweaters, leather ski gloves, skis, poles, boots, and bindings. |
