Show Steed Named To County Impact Team ESCALANTE Stephen Steed, manager of Escalante Sawmills and member of the Garfield County School District board of trustees was recently asked to join the Garfield County Impact Team. The team was organized in August, 1979, under the auspices of the county commissioners including as members representive local people and representatives of state and federal planning. Purpose of the Team is to encourage development in the county while at the same time assessing potential impact of growth so that it can be properly managed to best benefit the county. The team has met monthly and will hold its next regular meeting in Salt Lake City late in the month. Steed was born in Salt Lake City and reared in Escalante where he graduated from Escalante High School. He attended Utah Tech at Provo, but cu-tailed his educaton when his family's sawmill (now Escalante Sawmills, Inc,) burned in February, 1975 and he returned home to help rebuild. He stayed on with the mill as it was sold to Allied Forest Products, Portland, Oregon in November, 1977 and was made plant manager. Team members welcomed Steed as a representative of local industry, schools, and civic minded dedication. Steed his his wife Claudia are parents of four children: Cassidy, 5; Jessie, 4; Levi, 2; and Tauyna, five months. |
