Show License by Mail Proves Popular The drivers license renewal by mail process was instigated in July, 1980, as a bonus for a good driving record and has worked reasonably well. However, some problems exist due to several reasons. Many people in the area seem to lack information on this process. If you change your address, the postal service does not forward state mail. This is why you are required by law to report any address change within 10 days to your nearest driver license office. If your address is different in any way than what is on your present license, you will probably not receive your renewal by mail. If you have received a ticket for any moving violation during the last 4 years, or been Involved in an accident, you will not receive a renewal by mail. If your name has changed due to marriage, divorce, or any other reason, you do not qualify for renewal by mail. Any process of this nature must make allowances for computer and human error. If you feel that you cr-alify and you haven't received any renewal forms in the mail by 30 days prior to the expiration date of your license, you may call 533-5149 and someone will check for you to see why it hasn't reached you. You must remember that when you renew this way, you do not get a new license, you receive a sticker that goes on the back of the old one, extending the time 4 years. If you want a new license with a new picture you have the option of renewing your license at one of our offices with an eye test and a 20 question written exam of your driving skills. Whatever way you choose to do it, remember that faulty vision can sneak up on you unnoticed and no memory is perfect, so have your vision checked periodically and reaG a new drivers handbook occasionally to keep abreast of the changing regulations and alws of our state. |
