Show Plans Completed for Three-Stake LDS Youth Sessions in Escalante ESCALANTE The LDS youth conference will be held this year in Escalante on April 6 through 8 which is spring vacation. The conference, with the theme of "To Thine Own Self Be True, For Ye Are the Light of the World", is held for youth 14 through 18 from the Panguitch, Beaver and Escalante stakes. Saturday, April 9, a special fireside program will be held in St. George at the stake meeting house across from the St. George LDS Temple at 7 p.m., where several general authorities of the church will speak to the youth, ages 12 through 25. The youth conference will begin April 6 at 8 p.m. In the Escalante gymnasium with a western-type hoedown and get acquainted dance. Thursday there will be a general assembly meeting at 10 a.m. in the Escalante Stake House for the presentation of the theme skit. The speaker will be Dr and Mrs. Eliott Cameron. Dr. Cameron Is vice-president of Brigham Young University. Following the noon meal there will be a panel discussion which will be moderated by Pres. Paul K. Nielson of Beaver Stake. Other members of the panel will include the afternoon workshop instructors. There will be seven workshop sessions of which the youth may select three to attend. The workshops will Include fish and game, child care, survival, first aid, genealogy and personal histories, dancing, and teenage problems. Fnllowtna the evening meal there will be a variety show presented by the "Brotherhood" from Dixie College, beginning at 6:30 p.m. In the gymnasium. At 8:30 p.m. there will be a dance in the stake center cultural hall. The music will be provided by "Rumpus" from Parowan. This will be semi-formal dress affair for conference participants only. Friday morning there will be a general assembly sunrise service from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the chapel and the guest speakers will be Mr. and Mrs. Bruce L. Christensen. From 9:15 a.m. to 10:13 a.m. the boys and girls will each go into separate sessions. The speaker for the girls' session will be Mrs. Ann Leavitt from Cedar City and the speaker for the boys session will be Brent Turek from Panguitch. Following the split session, they will reunite in a general session testimony meeting. Sack lunches will be provided for the return trip home. |
