Show Bobcats Finish Seventh In State 1-A Tournament Panguitch High School's Bobcats finished seventh in the State Class 1-A basketball tournament Saturday, after losing to Gunnison in a 51-41 game in the George Albert Smith Field house. Milford, one of the tournament favorites, won the tournament with a 65-52 win over arch rival Beaver. Wayne High won third, while Gunnison took fourth, South Summit fifth. As much as it was a Gun-nison-Panguitch matchup, Saturday's opener between the Bulldogs and the Bobcats was a shooting match between Gunnison's spunky senior forward Greg Hill and lanky Kevin Frandsen, Panguitch's 6-5 junior center. Hill, who hit from everywhere except the bench, led the Bulldogs to a 51-41 win. Frandsen, along with the rest of the Panguitch crew, had his best showing during the first -half. The -Bobcats came away with a 12-11 first quarter lead, then pushed it in the second quarter to be up 24-20 at the half. But the second half belonged to Gunnison. Hill and senior guard Robin Johnson, a 5-7 standout with a deadly shooting eye, took turns uncorking Hill from underneath and Johnson from outside. The Bulldogs slowly closed the gap and, with 4:41 remaining in the third quarter, Hill sunk two from the charity stripe to put Gunnison ahead for good. |
