"Silver grays" In politics was a term applied to tho whlgs of New York who supported tho administration administra-tion of President Fillmore, and regarded re-garded tho slavery question settled by tho compromise of 1850. A convention conven-tion of the administration was held at Syracuso Sept. 27, 1850, to secure a vindication of tho President's policy, etc. Tho convention resulted In an emphatic majority against tho administration; admin-istration; whereupon tho chairman, Mr. Ornnger, and several other administration ad-ministration men, left tho convention; as they wero elderly men, thoy, with their following, wero Immediately dubbed "silver trays." |
