Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 8 Volume VI, Issue VI July 1, 2002 Liberty Community Center Corporation Reports on Progress This is a public report to the citizens of Ogden Valley from the trustees of the L.C.C. Corporation (Liberty Community Center Corporation) regarding their efforts to purchase the “Old Red Church” on the corner of 3500 East and 4100 North in Liberty, Utah. The group is hoping to convert it into a community center. The L.C.C. Corporation made an official offer of $160,000 to the owners. The offer was refused. The owners countered with a contract requiring $220,000 for the building “as is,” with a down payment of $165,000. The balance would be due by the end of August. Also, all improvements required to bring the building “up to code” would be the responsibility of the BUYER. Essential repairs would total a minimum of $140,000. In all good conscience, the Board could not obligate the citizenry to that large of expenditure. Therefore, they did not sign the contract. To their dismay, the owner will not discuss other options or time extensions, nor agree to meet again. The L.C.C. Board is soliciting community input and suggestions for other options for a community center. One hour later I had gone about two feet by two feet in a section of my garden. I stood back and admired what I had done, but wondered why I was so tired since I had accomplished so little. Then I turned and looked at the wheelbarrow next to me, which made me feel a lot better because I could see what I had really accomplished. I have to admit, I wanted to take a picture so I could be reminded of all the work I had really done. Now some of you will say that’s silly, and others will know equally well what I’m saying—we need proof that we worked hard. It’s important for us to know we worked hard so we can understand why we’re tired! I know it sounds crazy, but I have what’s called, “the proving sickness.” We all obtain our self-worth from somewhere, and this is one of the many places I get mine. But I did think it was worth the thought. I thought about those things in my life that I have really Trigger Point improved upon, but haven’t given myself much credit because there are no “pulled weeds” to show for it—there is no proof of the change. It may be helpful for some of us to reflect upon all the “weeds” that are missing from our lives, to give us a better perspective on how well we really are doing. Sometimes I think we are accomplishing more than we think we are. But remember, you really don’t need to hang on to the weeds to show family, friends, and neighbors. Actually, my weeds are still in the wheelbarrow. Maybe it wasn’t that I was too tired to dump them, maybe something in me wanted to let people know what I had done. Let’s take the time to clean up our lives, and if you do need to look back at all you have had to do, to get where you are, just remember—you really don’t need proof! But if it makes you feel better, once in awhile, go ahead and look at all the weeds you’ve pulled and dumped in the trash, then get on with your gardening.
