Show Page 4 THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Volume VI, Issue VI July 1, 2002 Liberty Jr. Posse Rodeo Royalty Chosen The 2002 Liberty Junior Posse Queen contest held on June 8 at the Liberty Park Arena was a huge success. Five contestants competed in three age categories, including Queen (14 to 16 years old), 1st Princess (11 to 13 years old), and 2nd Princess (7 to 10 years old). Fifteen-yearold Jesse Evans was crowned as this year’s Liberty Junior Posse Queen. Kylee Johnson, 14, is 1st Princess and Tristan Van Dyke, 10, is 2nd Princess The sponsors and judges helped to make this a great event. Many thanks to Susan Van Dyke of Huntsville, Susan O’Keefe of Liberty, Debi McEntire, and a generous donation from Smith & Edwards. The 1999 Liberty Days Queen, Stephanie Van Dyke of Huntsville, along with Debi McEntire, directed this year’s Junior Posse Rodeo Queen Contest. The Junior Posse Royalty will compete with other county posse royalty on June 21 and June 22 in Harrisville at the Weber County Sheriff’s Posse Arena. The public is invited to watch the Horsemanship Competition on June 22 at 5:00 p.m. DERBY cont. from page 1 Welch, Brittni Thomason, Kelsey James, Macey Truett, Jasmine Duran, Megan Brandt, Nathan Collins, Emily Brandt, Michael Welch, Kristen Shaneyfelt, John Gilmore and Steven Shaneyfelt. The racers shared 13 homemade cars using specifications derived from the Boy Scout Manual. Each entrant made three runs, taking the average of the best two times as their score. Liberty Days Queen Contest This year, Tiffany Brennan directed the Liberty Days Queen Contest held on June 1 at the Liberty Park Arena. Winners this year were as follows: Queen, Kylee Johnson, 1st Princess Marissa Howry and 2nd Princess Many thanks to the parents and volunteers, including Jim Truett, Rich Thomansen, Cynthia Beck, Mike James, Lan Froerer, Joe Duran, Angie Truett, Nick Kneipp and Sue Hoffman. They worked hard to finalize race rules, car design specifications and the racecourse, and to obtain a special permit to close the road for the event. Tristan Van Dyke. This year’s Liberty Days Queen and Princesses will represent Liberty in the 4th of July Liberty Parade and in the All Horse Parade in Ogden on July 18, and in Ogden’s 24th of July Parade. Father Charles Cummins donated and provided a set of pneumatic wheels for all the cars at a cost of $20 per car. Thank you to all. The Father’s Day Soapbox Derby will be held every year. Children ages 7 to 12 are welcome to join this event. Parents and children must build their cars to meet established guidelines and specifications.
