Weber County Commission Approves Ogden Valley Pathways’ Master Plan By Shanna Francis Ogden Valley News On June 11, Geoff Ellis, director of the Ogden Valley Pathways, presented the Valley-wide Pathways Master Plan vision statement to the Weber County Commissioners who approved the plan. They made a motion to direct the Weber County planning staff to prepare the applicable resolutions for adoption by the Commissioners at next month’s meeting on June 25 at 2 p.m. Pathways supporters believe implementation of a master plan for non-motorized trails or pathways will encourage pathways construction. A network of pathways will help to decrease motorized traffic, and provide recreational opportunities and safe places to walk and ride in Ogden Valley. Ogden Pathways recently completed an extensive public planning process through which the plan was developed. The plan was then presented before the East Huntsville, Liberty/Nordic and Weber County Township Planning Commissions. Each commission recommended that the Weber County Commissioners approve the plan, amending the Ogden Valley General Plan. The pathways plan calls for a network of pathways in the community, including unpaved trails, bike paths, side paths, shared roadways, and bike lanes. The town of Liberty will honor Blue Stone, World Champion Bull Rider, 2001; and Olympic Gold Medal Bull Rider, 2002, at this year’s Liberty Days Celebration on Thursday, July 4, at the Community Park, 4100 N. 3500 E., Liberty, Utah. Because Blue has spent a good deal of his life in Liberty, where his mother Sheila and grandparents Bud and Verena Willard still live, residents wanted to express their pride in his accomplishments, and wish him the best in his future endeavors. Blue’s wife Misti, little son Rowdy, mother Sheila, and grandparents Bud and Verena Willard, will be riding in the Liberty Parade, which will be held at 10:00 a.m. Blue will serve as Grand Avon Road Study Completed By Shanna Francis Ogden Valley News Weber County Commissioners were recently presented the results of a Phase I study, undertaken by the County and contracted out to Wixstrom Engineering, to determine the need of improvements to the historic Avon Road that runs from Liberty, Utah over the mountain, and down in to Avon in Cache County. About three miles of the dirt road are located in Weber County, and is only, primarily, accessible by four-wheel drive vehicles due to its steep, rocky and windy grade. Estimates show that to pave and develop the stretch in Weber County would cost about 2.4 million dollars. The initial study, to determine if there is a need for the road to be developed, indicated that there would not be a significant need for the road improvements for at least 20 years. The current study looked at the roads’ overall traffic load, and concluded that even if the road were significantly improved, traffic patterns on the road would not change dramatically. The Phase II study will now be undertaken to determine what level of improvements to the Avon Road by the County would be feasible. World Champion Bull Rider Blue Stone Marshall, if he can work it into his bull riding schedule. We all hope he can. Would you like an opportunity to view some of Blue’s trophy saddles, spurs, and belt buckles? Grandpa Bud will be displaying them in one of the booths at the park on July 4. Plan on attending this year’s Liberty Days Celebration on the 4th of July! For more information on park events call Kent Boyington at 745-0237. |
