Show The Summit County Bee Friday, Dtctmbir 24. 1993 7A South Summit Elementary South Summit Wildcats First Win Ever Over Juab by Spencer Neff The Wildcat Wrestling Team was in Juab on Thursday to wrestle against the team that they just couldnt ever seem to beat. However, all things change At this particular match, the JV teamed up with some of the junior high wrestlers to wrestle against the Wasps. A couple of these were Broc Johnson and Brent Ure, both of these Bulldogs pinned their Juab opponent. After the junior high kids were done, the JV took to the mat They wrestled well but fell a little short as the Juab JV pulled ahead and won 72 to 47. Although they lost overall, there were a few individual victories and pins. The Wildcats who pulled through and pinned their Juab opponents were Kip Knight, Collins Prescott, James Robertson, Scott Taylor, and Amos Crystal. As the JV matches were winding down, the Varsity was warming up. The evening started out well for the Wildcat Varsity as Lonn Thorton began the matches by pinning the first Wasp of the night. Clint 17-1- 8. schools who attended were Payson, Cedar, Skyview; Tooele, Valley, Weber, and Roy. wrestlers had seven matches, some having byes. Those who placed JV Star Most with were James Robertson, first place, and Amos Crystal, second place. Varsity winners were Lonn Thorton, second place; Dusty Simpson, fourth place; Jeremy Harris, fourth place; Cody Atkinson, fourth place, and Brent Edmunds, fourth place. Good job, guys! Cats Take on The Wasps by Derek Beer On Dec. 13, the boys basketball team played the Juab Wasps. The JV and Varsity won their games, with the freshmen losing by two points. The JV game was close the whole game, but the Cats came out on top at the end with a 31 to 49 win. The high scorers for the JV were Jason Leavitt with 16 points; Jake Aplanalp with 8 points, and Paul Hortin with 8. The amazing play of the game was with 3 sec-- onds remaining before halftime, the game was tied and from 34 court, Ben Harris threw up a long bomber and it was nothing but net, which put them ahead by three at halftime. The Varsity played great and improved their record to 4 and 1 and are proving themselves major contenders in both Region and State. The high scorers for the game were Robbie Maynes with 19; Jay Woolstenhulme with 18, and Tim Prescott with 14. i Ladycats vs. Juab Wasps by Julie Blazzard The season game between the Juab Wasps and the South Summit Ladycats was played Thursday, Dec. 16, at the South Summit gym. There was a misunderstanding con- cerning the day of play. The Ladycats were not ready for the game, although they defended their undefeated title. Ladycats leading only by two. After halftime, South Summit came on the floor determined to rise to their full potential. Since the Wasps were breaking their press, the Ladycats pulled it off, which proved to be a good decision. The score ended up being 8 for the Ladycats, leading them to a 0 record and 0 for Region play. Good job, Ladycats! Their next game will be held after the Christmas break. Good luck in the 36-3- 6-- The game started out slowly with the Ladycats not able to reach their full potential. The halftime score was quite low with the fol- lowed Lonns example, both of them pinning their Juab opponent. But the Cats werent through yet. They kept attacking and beating the Wasps and the final score told who the best team was. The Wildcats won 34 to 13 over the Wasps. This is the first time South Summit has beaten Juab in a dual and they should come out on top against the Trojans of Morgan on the 21st. The JV should start wrestling at about six and the Varsity right after.
