Show m m m . - i 1995 page C7 Tuesday, November 14, Davis County Clipper Outstanding teachers honored Genene Hid, Davis High, and Four outstanding educators from Davis County were honored at the Nordstrom Salute to Education held on Saturday, November 4 at the Crossroads Nordstrom store and cosponsored by Davis Education Association. Honored educators, who were selected because of the contributions they have made to students, were sixth grade teacher Kelly Unger, Woods Cross High, Alyson Willey, Bountiful Junior, Tricia Covington, Syracuse Junior, prin- cipal Marilyn Oberg, Morgan Elementary. Honorees received a Katharine Arnold, Farmington gift certificate from Nordstrom and were acknowledged in a presentation at the store. Some Davis County students also chosen to model at the fashion show held in connection with the presentation to honor teachers. Those modeling included Kara Willey, Viewmont High, Monica Parker, Layton High, Rachelle Neff, Layton High, Hailey Bitner, Layton High, Mike Mills, West Bountiful Elementary, library media teacher Sonja Kelsey, North Davis Junior High, honors English teacher Elementary, Natalie Thiros, Lincoln Elementary, Kristen Willey, Tolman Elementary, Mandy Meacham, Oak Hills Melissa Elementary, Meacham, Oak Hills Elementary, and Jasmine Thornley, Holbrook Elementary. Students were chosen to honor their academic achievements, and were nominated by current or former teachers. Class studies nature in field hand a very important wetland The Centerville Junior Highs 9th grade Bioearth Class taught by Bonnie Schaff recently took a field trip to the Layton Marsh Preserve at the edge of the Great Salt Lake to study how plants have adapted to the high salt content in the soil. This area is owned by the Nature Conservancy, a private group that ecosystem, said Mrs. Schaff. The class has been studying wetlands, their benefits and the challenges to their existence. If you havent yet felt the need to used purchase smoke detectors, hopefully this will convince you. It is a myth that you can smell smoke and wake up on your own. Fires produce toxic gases, some of which you cant smell, which often kill people long before the fire reaches them. Be sure detectors you have, or plan to purchase have a UL or FM marker. Install them annually. Daylight Savings Time, is a good time to get into the habit of putting fresh batteries in your detectors, so you will always know how old they are.
