Show farms Watercolorist to address Cntvl Historical Society sought by commission Century-ol- d The Utah Centennial Commission wants to know how many family farms and ranches in Utah have reached the century mark. The Commission is preparing to honor those agricultural operations g cenduring the states tennial celebration next year. One of the first things we Utahns must do as we celebrate 100 years of statehood, is honor and remember our agricultural past, said Stephen M. Studdert, Chairman of Utahs Centennial year-lon- Commission. Studdert announced the forma- tion of the Utah Century Farms and Ranches Committee, whos responsibility it will be to ensure that family farms and ranches, continuously owned for 100 years or longer, will be recognized as a part of the state centennial and beyond. The committee is led by Utah Farm Bureau Executive Vice President, C. Booth Wallentine, of and Utah Department Agriculture Deputy Commissioner, Van Burgess. We want to offer special recognition to those families who have helped make Utah the productive and industrious place that it is, said Wallentine. Dozens of such farms and ranches are believed to be in exis- tence. Once identified, family members will be presented with a specially designed sign commemorating 100 years of agriculture 'production. The sign can be displayed on the farm or ranch property. The families will be recognized in their local communities, and at a special ceremony at the Utah State Fair in 1996. Farmers and ranchers who believe they qualify for 100-ye- ar recognition should contact their local extension agent, farm bureau representative or the Utah Department of Agriculture. CEKTEBSBIE Prominent and popular watercolorist Rebecca Hartvigsen will be featured at the November meeting of the Centerville Historical Society tomorrow evening. She will show a number of her paintings and prints, describe her methods, and answer queries regarding her work. She will also relate how she came to be interested in art, the steps taken to develop her craft, her instructors, and other factors and influences which played important parts culminating in her being recognized as one of the most talented and sought-afte- r artists in the state. Her beautiful paintings appear fre- quently in The Ensign magazine, and hang on the walls of many private homes. Others have been featured on calendars, book covers and in art exhibits. The University Of Utah and the LDS Church have her watercolors rL-- f: on display, also. She is truly one of the most widely acclaimed artists in the state, particularly for her renditions of homes, flowers and gardens, and historic buildings. This presentation should be relished by all w ho admire art and beauty, and all in the Davis County area and beyond are invited to attend on Wednesday, .November 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Centerville City Hall on Main Street.
