Marie was born July 4, 1910, in Rupert, Idaho, the daughter of Owen Garland Gooch and Mary (McIntosh) Gooch. She grew up in Salt Lake City, graduating from West High Scl married John James Dawson in February 1935. Marie was one of Salt Lake Citys son-in-la- first female real estate agents. She began her career during the Depression, working for McConaughy Investment Co., first as a secretary and then as a real estate agent. At the time, 1932, there were only three other women selling real estate. Her success helped encourage about 30 women to enter the field by the end of the year. She later worked for Knight Realty Co. and in the late 1940s joined Union Trust Co. with her husband. In 1950, she helped found the Womens Council of Utah Realtors and was elected its first president. The group affiliated with the National Association of Real Estate Boards. She and her husband started their own business, Dawson Real Estate, in 1956 in Bountiful. She ran the business from the basement of their Main Street home while raising their two children upstairs. They retired in 1974. Her husband, John, predeceased her in January with him. She is survived by her husband, Roy; two children, Linda Warwick and her hus- band, John, of Lake Oswego, Ore., and John Dawson and his wife. Judy, of Las Vegas, Nev.; a stepdaughter. Barbara Burnett of Portland, Ore.; her brother. Mel Gooch, and his wife. Melba, of Mesa, Ariz.; grandchildren, Julie Warwick, Jody Dawson. Tracy Warwick. James Dawson, Carin OToole, Lisa Bordner, and Kendra nieces and Bordner; and much-love- d nephews. A memorial service was held Sunday, Nov. 12, in the Lake Oswego United Church of Christ.
