Mining machinery from the Eimeo Division of Corp. is sold around the world. Beehive Machinery, Inc., Sandy, has started selling machines in deboning Eastern Europe. d coal is leaving the state by the thousands of tons to fuel the boilers of Midwest power plants. According to George Blessing, director of the Salt Lake office, U.S. Department of Commerce, exports from Utah will probably total about $260 million in 1976 more than double the $115 million recorded in 1972, when the last official Census Bureau tally of Utah exports was made. 7 Million Tons Utah produced more than 7 million tons of coal in 1976 a record. Half of it was produced for export. Copper, lead, steel, lead and zinc, of course, have long been major Utah export items. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has estimated 1976 agricultural exports out of Utah at close to $50 million for fiscal 1976, more than double the figure for fiscal Cash flow would be improved because duty would not have to be paid until goods leave the zone. Goods can be processed or manipulated to qualify for lowest duties or freight charges, and duties could be avoided on damaged or substandard items. Goods in excess of the U.S. import quota could be held in the zone until the next quota period. Merchandise in the zone would have added protection against theft since U.S. Customs security supervision would prevail. Indefinite storage would permit traders to await the best U.S. market conditions. Utah-mine- Crude Oil, Coal Supply Is Enough for Years An Ashland Oil Inc. official says HOUSTON (AP) world crude oil production from known fields probably will not peak out until 1995. John R. Hall, executive vice president of the Ashland, Ky., firm, said there also are vast amounts of hydrocarbons available from coal, shale, the tar sands of Canada and Venezuela, enhanced oil recovery from existing fields, and undiscovered oil fields. The amount of oil available from these sources far exceeds current known petroleum reserves, he said. Hall was a keynote speaker at the 83rd meeting of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Hall said that on a heat equivalent basis, the coal reserves of the United States exceed the oil reserves of Saudi Arabia. So we need to get on with the job of mining this coal and converting some of it into liquid fuels, he said. 1973. Medical equipment and machines are making large gains. Printed materials are on the increase. Further Enhancement Utahs position as an international trader will be enhanced further with the institution of a Foreign Trade Zone adjacent to the Salt Lake International Airport. The zone would be the first between the Pacific Coast and Omaha. Advantages are these. Imports could be landed and stored quickly without full customs formalities U.S quota restrictions, duty and bonding are not applicable within the zone. Consequently, rates in the Northwest are lower than those of most other western utilities. However, few hydroelectric sites are left in the Northwest, so companies there are now turning to nuclear and coal-fire- d generation plants. These more expensive methods will inevitably lead to rate increases in the Northwest.
